Jajpur: The Kuakhia Police in Odisha’s Cuttack is set to unravel the mystery behind the death of Jharaphula Nayak, a Plus III student of Rama Devi Women’s University.
According to sources, police had sent the viscera of Jharaphula to State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Bhubaneswar to ascertain the exact cause of death. However, a senior police officer had informed the media on condition of anonymity that as per the post-mortem report, the death was caused due to asphyxiation.
Though police have not revealed the findings of viscera report, reliable sources said that they have found evidence of murder.
Notably, the Kuakhia Police had taken Rakesh Swain, the boyfriend of Jharaphula, on a three-day remand on February 2 and reconstructed the crime scene at the spot where he had dumped her body. Police on the same day had brought him to Bhubaneswar for a crime scene recreation at a food joint in Pokhariput and later at Shiv Sai Guesthouse in Dharma Vihar area where Jharaphula had spent the night with him on January 26.
Following the statement by Ramakant Nayak, Jharaphula’s father, police later arrested Rakesh from Sundarpada area in Bhubaneswar.
During interrogation, Rakesh told police that after finding her unconscious on the next morning, he called his friend Sekhar and together they took her on a scooter to admit her at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. But, as they later realized that she is dead, they took the body and dumped it on the roadside near Mulapala Chhak in Jajpur.
