Bhubaneswar: In a major achievement, Odisha Police arrested the kingpin and another member of an inter-state arms smuggling syndicate.

The main accused, identified as Golden Singh (34), is a native of Bihar. He was arrested from Manjara village in Munger district of Bihar by a special team of the Commissionerate Police from Cuttack with the help of the Special Task Force (STF) of that state.

The police seized two guns and a mobile phone from the accused.

Singh was in touch with several criminals from Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur and Jharsuguda districts in Odisha. He was supplying firearms to them, Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kanwar Vishal Singh said.

After interrogating Singh, the police nabbed Wasim Khan (25), a member of the inter-state arms smuggling racket, from Mangalabagh area in Cuttack city. The police also seized a country made gun from Khan.

Preliminary investigation showed that Khan was procuring guns from Singh and supplying them to other criminals in Odisha, police said.

It may be noted here that the Jagatpur police in Cuttack had busted the inter-state arms smuggling racket on March 11 and arrested three members of the syndicate. The police had seized four guns and 12 bullets from the accused.

While investigating the case, the police came to know that the trio was procuring illegal firearms from Munger area in Bihar. The special team of the Commissionerate Police then went to Bihar and nabbed the kingpin of the racket.
