Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Postal Circle has released 10 Permanent Pictorial Cancellations featuring the State’s cultural landmarks and tourist destinations for the first time on a single occasion, using philately to promote Odisha’s rich heritage and tourism potential.
Chief Postmaster General Nirmaljit Singh released the impressions at a function in Bhubaneswar on 12 October to mark Fun with Philately Day during National Postal Week.
The new cancellations feature landmarks in Khordha and Kataka districts, including Rajarani Temple, Chandaka Elephant Reserve, Mukteswar Temple, Dhauligiri, Netaji’s birthplace, Swaraj Ashram, Cuttack Chandi Temple, silver filigree, Barabati Fort and Nandankanan Zoological Park.
The cancellation impressions will be available at designated post offices nearest to the respective tourist destinations, enabling philatelists, stamp collectors and visitors to collect them.
Singh also released a postcard on the theme of National Philately Day and a set of 10 bookmarks showcasing India’s traditional performing arts under the theme “Puppets of India”.
The initiative aims to promote awareness of Odisha’s cultural traditions, historical landmarks and tourist attractions through philately, while encouraging public interest in stamp collection.
As part of National Postal Week, mini stamp exhibitions, philatelic workshops, quizzes, seminars and letter-writing competitions are also being organised across various divisions of the Odisha Circle.
The bookmarks and picture postcard are available at philatelic bureaux in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Sambalpur. Director of Postal Services (Headquarters) A. Koragappa, other postal officers and philatelists attended the event.
