Cuttack: Around nine months after the death of Odia rapper Abhinav Singh in Bengaluru, police have arrested his wife Utkal Deepika Rout on charges of abetting his suicide.
Sources said the woman was arrested by a team of Lalbag police station in Cuttack following a detailed investigation that continued for 285 days.
It may be recalled that 32-year-old Abhinav Singh allegedly died by suicide on February 9, this year, at his rented apartment in Bengaluru after consuming poison. He had moved to Bengaluru for work just a week earlier and was employed as an automation testing engineer with a private company.
He had gained recognition in Odisha as well as other states for several of his songs, which had bagged millions of views on YouTube.
Singh’s family had earlier accused his wife of mentally harassing him, claiming that the abuse drove him to take the extreme step. His father had lodged a complaint in this regard at the Lalbag police station, naming Utkal Deepika, her family members and others.
Police said the investigation is underway and more details regarding the case will be revealed as the probe progresses.
