Odisha Reels Under Heatwave; Mercury Soars To 40.4°C In Bhubaneswar By 2.30PM Today
Bhubaneswar: The day temperature breached the 40 degree Celsius-mark and touched 40.4 degree Celsius in Odisha capital by 2.30 pm on Thursday.
Five places hit 40°C and above in the state with Jharsuguda recording highest maximum temperature of 41.4°C, followed by Sambalpur 41.2°C, Bhubaneswar 40.4°C and Chandbali and Hirakud at 40.0°C each, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department tweeted.
The IMD has forecast a further rise in day temperature by 3°C at many places in interior Odisha during the next 2 days and slight fall thereafter. The day temperature is likely to be 40°C or more and remain 3-5 °C above normal at a few places in Odisha during the next 3 days. The yellow warning for heatwave has also been issued for several districts till 8.30 am on April 16.
Bhubaneswar had recorded 39.8 degree Celsius the previous day and 40.7 degree Celsius on April 11. The maximum temperature in the city may hover around 40ºC for 2 days, the MeT office said.

Notably, the mercury had soared past 37 degree Celsius by 11.30 this morning with Jharsuguda being the hottest at 39.2 degree Celsius followed by Balasore (39), Chandbali (39), Bhubaneswar (38.6), Sambalpur (38.2), Keonjhar (37.6) and Hirakud (37.4).
