Bhubaneswar: Dengue is becoming a serious concern across Odisha with cases rising every day. At least 114 dengue cases were reported in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Thursday.

According to sources, Rourkela is the worst-affected with 99 cases reported in the last 24 hours. Fifteen cases are from nearby areas. Of the 99 cases in Rourkela, 37 are non-locals, reports said.

State Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra informed on Wednesday there has been no deaths from dengue in Odisha yet. Positivity and daily infection rates have decreased compared to last year, he added.

Notably, the number of dengue patients admitted in Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar is more than double its capacity. The hospital has only 15 beds for such patients. Around 30-40 people with dengue symptoms are visiting the hospital daily.

A review meeting was held by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange on Monday to take stock of the dengue situation in the capital.

Malkangiri district is also reporting a rise in the number of dengue cases.
