Cuttack: The hearing on the bail applications of nine accused persons, including Muna Mohanty, in the Odisha Police sub-inspector (SI) recruitment scam case was deferred by the High Court. The matter will now be taken up for further hearing on February 16.
The court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to provide details of progress of probe before the next date of hearing on February 16. The central probe agency has been asked to place on record details of the progress made so far, as the probe into the alleged recruitment irregularities continues.
Prime accused Muna Mohanty had earlier filed bail application citing health issues, including a kidney ailment. The other accused had also cited similar reasons in their bail applications. Till his application is heard, Court asked jail officials to facilitate his medical treatment to Muna Mohanty.
The court also asked Muna to provide documentary evidence related to his health condition. Their bail hearings have been deferred by the court citing the need for further scrutiny of case records and submissions.
The SI Recruitment Scam has triggered widespread concern, as alleged irregularities have raised serious questions about the transparency and integrity of the process of recruitment, conducted by the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB).
The nine co-accused are facing trial for their alleged involvement in the recruitment scam. The case is currently being probed by the CBI, which is examining examination records, recruitment procedures and suspected financial transactions linked to the scam to uncover the full extent of the network involved in manipulating the recruitment process.
