Odisha SRC Seeks Report On Crop Loss For Rain During Cyclone Michaung

Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) of Odisha has sought report from district collectors on crop loss due to the heavy rain caused by cyclone Michaung.

In a letter to the collectors on Wednesday, SRC Satyabrata Sahu said widespread rain reported from across the state during the last couple of days under the influence of cyclone Michaung might have caused damage to Kharif crops and horticulture crops.

He requested them to conduct field-level crop loss assessment through joint inquiry by the officials of the Revenue and Disaster Management department and Agriculture and Farmer Empowerment department through eye estimation to ascertain the crop area damaged of 33% and above.

“While assessing the extent of crop loss, the land schedule/RoR of affected farmers should be verified from Bhulekh. Collectors will accord approval of crop loss (farmer-wise extent of crop area damaged as assessed) and intimate requirement of funds for disbursement of Agricultural Input Subsidy (AIS) as admissible,” the SRC’s letter read.

To ameliorate the suffering of the affected farmers, AIS, as per norms of the State Disaster Response Fund, will be provided to farmers sustaining crop loss of 33% and above. The collectors were told to submit the report by December 12.
