Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Bar Council has issued a show-cause notice to Archana Nag, who was enrolled with the bar as an advocate on May 10.
The council enrols legal aspirants seeking to practise law in the state.
Archana had submitted the application on September 2, 2024. However, the council found that she had attempted to intentionally suppress information on criminal cases pending against her in the court of law. “On verification of your application form submitted for enrolment on 02.09.2024 it is found that you have intentionally suppressed the above said material facts with regard to pending of Criminal Cases against you at the time of submission of your enrolment form. You have mentioned ‘NO’ in column-20 against the informations sought for in the said Application form,” the May 13 notice said.
She has been asked to reply to the show cause within 7 days from the date of receipt of this notice, “failing which the council shall proceed ex parte in the matter as deem fit and proper.”
Archana was arrested as the prime accused in the 2022 honey-trapping case and had spent around 14 months in the Jharpada Special Jail here. Immediately after her release in December 2023, she appeared for the Integrated Law Exam, for which she had prepared inside the prison.
