Bhubaneswar: Odisha is on alert with COVID-19 raising its ugly head again with cases spiralling in various Asian regions, including Hong Kong and Singapore.
The state health administration is closely monitoring the situation and has initiated discussions with the World Health Organization (WHO) to assess the risks and prepare accordingly, Public Health Director Dr. Nilakantha Mishra said on Saturday.
“We have no information about any new variant of COVID-19. The cases have increased amid a decline in the antibody levels. Some deaths have also been reported. No special alert has been issued in India so far. We are in contact with the Centre. The state government will take steps to deal with a possible COVID situation as per the central government’s directives,” he said.
Mishra reaffirmed that no new positive case has been reported in Odisha since a long time.
COVID-19 cases are surging in Hong Kong and Singapore, prompting health officials to warn of a new wave spreading across Asia. Reports suggest the rise could be due to waning immunity, and authorities are encouraging vaccination to combat the spread.
