Odisha STF To Bring Spurious Favipiravir Racket Mastermind On Remand

Bhubaneswar: As part of its investigation into spurious Favipiravir racket in Odisha, the Special Task Force of the states Crime Branch would bring mastermind Sudeep Mukherjee from Mumbai on remand.

Mukherjee’s Max Relief Healthcare in Noida produced the spurious drug and supplied to different states including Odisha. He was arrested by Mumbai police in June.

The STF plans to interrogate Sudeep and Cuttack-based medicine dealer Siba Prasanna Jena whom the former supplied the drug simultaneously. Jena is the managing director of Medilloyd Medicament Pvt Ltd. He was arrested by the STF last month.

“As per procedure, we have applied for Sudeep’s 10-day remand in a court in Bhubaneswar. If the Mumbai court accepts it, we will bring him here for interrogation,” the TOI quoted a senior Crime Branch officer as saying.

In June, top drug regulator, Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), had approved Favipiravir produced by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals for therapeutic treatment of COVID-19 patients.
