Bhubaneswar: Air India’s evacuation flights have come as good news for Indians stranded in Ukraine, but parents of several students from Odisha said there was no word yet on when their children will be able to board flights home.
Somya Ranjan Kar, a first-year MBBS student at Kharkiv National Medical University in Ukraine, remains in his hostel, awaiting orders to evacuate. He is safe but his parents are worried and spending sleepless nights.
Kar is from Burla in Sambalpur district. He was planning to return on Saturday.
His mother Sangeeta said he along with other students have been asked to sleep in the hostel basement and not to switch on lights. So far, they have not faced food shortage.
“Somya told us that he is safe. But there is no advisory on evacuation yet. They are living in fear,” she said.
Two other students from Sambalpur, Md. Zaqi and Roshan Kumar Behera, are also in Ukraine. As also Shanti Naik from Kalahandi district. Hailing from Junagarh, he is also pursuing MBBS from Kharkiv National Medical University.
