Odisha To Develop 5 More ‘Blue Flag’ Beaches In These 3 Districts

Bhubaneswar: To further boost tourism in Odisha, the state government is planning to redevelop five more beaches in different districts on the lines of the Golden Beach in Puri, which was recently granted the coveted the Blue Flag certification.

According to a report published in the Times of India, the Forest and Environment and Tourism departments will jointly redevelop one more in Puri and two each in Ganjam and Balasore districts to meet international standards.

The Golden Beach in Puri is among eight beaches — Shiavrajpur (Gujarat), Ghoghla (Diu), Kasargod (Kerala), Padubidri (Karnataka), Kappad (Kerala), Rushikonda (Andhra Pradesh) and Radhanagar (Andaman) — to have been accorded the tag this year.

The Blue Flag certification is a highly recognised eco-label in which a beach has to meet 33 criteria fixed by the Foundation for Environment Education (FEE), Denmark
