Odisha To Encounter Scorching Heatwave Again; Mercury To Soar By 5-6°C Next Week

Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions are set to return after a brief respite due to nor-wester induced rain over last few days in Odisha which is likely to experience hot and humid weather till Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

With a cyclonic circulation over north Odisha becoming less marked, hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail at some places of the state during the next 48 hours, it said.

The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at some places in the state during the three days thereafter. The MeT Centre also issued a yellow warning for the next five days.

A gradual rise in the maximum (day) temperature is likely by 5°C to 6°C during the next five days at many places across the state.

The maximum temperature is expected to touch 43 degrees Celsius in Balangir, Sambalpur, Titlagarh, Jharsuguda and Sonepur in the next couple of days.

On Saturday, Chandbali recorded the highest temperature with 36.8°C at 11.30 am, followed by Balasore at 36.4°C.

Meanwhile, the IMD has advised people to refrain from stepping outside the house from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm unless it is very necessary.
