Bhubaneswar: Keeping with its election promise, the Mohan Majhi government has decided to fill up vacant posts in different departments through an employment drive, Nikujkti mela, in September, sources said on Tuesday.

At least 35,000 vacant posts will be filled up in the first phase of this drive. In September alone, CM Majhi is very likely to distribute appointment letters to 22,000 new appointees, sources further said.

There are about 1.32 lakh vacant positions out of 3.99 lakh sanctioned posts in the state government and BJP had promised in its election manifesto to fill these after coming to power in Odisha.

“We will ensure recruitment to 1.5 lakh vacant government posts in a fair and transparent manner. Recruitment for 65,000 posts will be completed in two years. We will fill the vacancies for Other Backward Class (OBC) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) on the priority basis,” the saffron party’s manifesto stated.

A decision on the recruitment drive was taken by a high level committee chaired by CM Majhi. The empowered committee has also given approval to more than 96,000 posts and directed different departments to hold examination and interviews to fill up 78,000 posts.

Sources added that directions have been issued for obtaining approval of the committee for the remaining vacancies by September and recruitment agencies asked to publish the advertisements within December 2024.
