Bhubaneswar: The state government is all set to organise the ‘Rangabati Mahotsav’, a festival of dance and music showcasing the culture of western Odisha, in Keonjhar from May 5.
The three-day festival is being organised by the Odia Language Literature & Culture Department in collaboration with Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, and the district administration of Keonjhar. The festival would be held at Kalipadia of Keonjhar in the evening for three days.
A host of dignitaries, including Ministers, MP & MLAs of Keonjhar, prominent artists and others are slated to participate in the festival. This event is being organised for the promotion and dissemination of art, literature, culture, tradition, dance, and music, of western Odisha.
This year’s “Rangbati” festival will feature many prominent folk artists, dancers and singers from Western Odisha performing dance and music. From Dalkhai and Rasarkeli to Homunda, Chhau, Changu and Jhumar dances, folk music of Western Odisha will be performed on Dhol, Tabla, Mridangam and various traditional instruments, and various cultural programs will also be organized.
With the aim of keeping the folk art and culture of our Odisha alive, there is enthusiasm among the public to participate in the “Rangbati” festival, and intellectuals and artists have expressed their opinion that organizing the “Rangbati” festival based on the folk art and tradition of Western Odisha is a welcome step.
