Bhubaneswar: The higher education department in Odisha will grant access to e-resources to varsities and selected autonomous institutions for the first time. Research databases, e-journals, magazine subscriptions, e-books and discovery services to libraries are included in the e-resources.
Agreements have been signed between the department and aggregators like Ebsco and Elsevier to bring these services to the students, scholars, researchers and faculty members of 32 autonomous colleges and 12 state public universities, reported The Times of India.
The institutions will be granted access via the Odisha State Higher Education Council.
“It is a very costly affair for the universities and colleges to get access to thousands of journals, magazines, research theses, dissertations, books and publications. The government will spend around Rs 12 crore for the e-resource project,” sources were quoted as saying by TOI.
According to the plan, university students will get access to ScienceDirect — a website that provides access to a large bibliographic database of scientific and medical publications of the publisher Elsevier.
