Bhubaneswar: To bolster food security, the Odisha government on Friday announced opening of Jan Poshan Kendras in every panchayat across the state.
These centres will provide subsidised essentials like rice, atta, sugar, salt, and pulses.
Speaking to the media, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra informed that a pilot phase with five centres will be rolled out initially to identify operational challenges and gather feedback before scaling up statewide. “The initiative will also focus on middle class, often overlooked in welfare schemes but affected by rising commodity prices,” Patra noted, emphasising on its inclusive approach.
The government is finalising eligibility criteria and guidelines to ensure transparency and effective implementation, he added.
