Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday announced measures to address the supply of commercial LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), amid ongoing concerns over availability for businesses such as restaurants and hotels.

Speaking to the media, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said commercial LPG allocation has been increased to 50%. “While 20% was designated for commercial use, the central government has permitted an additional 20% to states specifically for restaurants and hotels. The remaining 10% is subject to certain conditions for supply. Of these, 40% will be made available from today,” he said.

On March 21, the Centre approved an additional 20% allocation of commercial LPG to states and Union Territories, raising the total to 50%, providing much-needed relief to restaurants, hotels, and other affected sectors amid supply disruptions caused by the ongoing West Asia conflict.

The Minister further allayed concerns over LPG availability, stating that 14,000 domestic LPG cylinders are currently held in reserve and is enough to fulfil existing demand without disruption. He emphasised that supplies are being distributed according to need and called on consumers to remain calm rather than engage in panic buying.

To ensure smooth distribution and prevent misuse, the state government has also intensified raids across multiple locations to curb black marketing of LPG cylinders. “Strict action will be taken against those found involved in illegal practices,” Patra warned.
