Bhubaneswar: In an effort to ensure speedy disposal of online fraud cases, the Odisha government is planning to set up five dedicated cyber courts across the state.
Sharing this information on Saturday, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said the proposed dedicated courts would go a long way in providing quicker justice to victims of cyber fraud.
The proposed special courts will exclusively deal with cyber-related offences, which have seen a sharp rise in recent years in the state, he said, adding that the main aim is to accelerate the judicial process in cyber-crime cases and ensure timely justice for affected individuals.
The Minister stated that the government is committed to taking stringent action against cyber criminals and strengthening the legal framework to tackle digital offences more effectively.
Judges appointed to these courts will possess specialised knowledge of cyber laws and modern technology, enabling them to better understand and assess complex digital evidence during trials, Harichandan said while speaking at a workshop on ‘Law In a Changing Society’ in Bhubaneswar.
The initiative is expected to improve the efficiency of investigation and court proceedings in cases involving online fraud, financial scams, hacking, identity theft, and other cyber-related offences.
Besides the cyber courts, the Odisha government is also planning to set up seven special courts dedicated to women-related cases. The move is aimed at ensuring faster hearing and disposal of cases concerning women’s safety and justice.
It is believed that the establishment of special courts will strengthen the justice delivery system and enhance public confidence in tackling emerging forms of crime in the digital era.
