Odisha ULB Polls: Cong Releases 1st List Of Candidates For Corporator Posts In BMC

Bhubaneswar: Keeping ahead of ruling BJD and opposition BJP, the Congress party on Friday released the first list of its nominees for corporator posts in BMC election.

President of Bhubaneswar district committee of Congress Biswajit Das announced the names of its nominees for corporator posts in 30 wards in the election to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the first phase.

Earlier in the day, the party had announced Madhusmita Acharya as its Mayor candidate for BMC.

The BJD and the BJP are yet to announce their candidates for the post, which is reserved for woman. Bhubaneswar had last seen a woman heading its civic body in 1993 when then Janata Dal’s Kiran Bala Mangaraj was elected as Chairperson.

The elections to 109 ULBs including 106 NAC and municipalities and three municipal corporations in the state will be held on March 24 and counting of votes and declaration of results are scheduled for March 26.

The filing of nomination papers began on March 2 and would conclude on March 7. This time, the voters will directly elect the mayors in the elections.
