Bhubaneswar: A day after apprehending Superintendent of Excise, Dhenkanal, Krishna Nayak, with suspected ill-gotten cash of Rs 3 lakh, Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested her as she failed to explain the source.
The anti-graft agency also unearthed huge assets, including two buildings, eight high-value plots and Rs 20 lakh deposits during raids on locations linked to her.
Based on the findings during preliminary investigation, Nayak was placed under arrest and will be forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal.
Notably, she was intercepted on Deulasahi Road in Dhenkanal, following a tip off, while proceeding in a vehicle on Tuesday and was unable to give satisfactory explanation with regard to possession of such huge cash, a Vigilance release said.
While Nayak was questioned regarding the source of the money, simultaneous searches were conducted at 5 locations linked to her to ascertain whether she has accumulated assets disproportionate to her known sources of income, it added.
Assets unearthed during searches include the following:
1. One triple storeyed building of area approx 4655 sqft at Jagatpur, Cuttack.
2. One Double storeyed building of area approx 1400 sqft at Kumbharpada, Puri.
3. 8 high value plots including 4 plots at Cuttack, 2 plots at Puri, and 2 plots at Jagatsinghpur.
4. 2 benami four-wheeler, now under verification.
5. Bank deposits and other investments to the tune of Rs 20 lakh
