Odisha Vigilance Arrests Former College Principal With Properties Worth Over Rs 5 Crore
Bhawanipatna: The Vigilance on Tuesday arrested former principal Ramesh Chandra Sahoo in disproportionate assets case.
The Vigilance officials has conducted simultaneous raids on house and properties of Sahoo, former principal of Hira Nila College at Biswanathpur in Kalahandi district on Monday. During the raids, he was found in possession of assets worth over Rs 5 crore.
As he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily, Koraput Vigilance registered a case against Sahoo and his wife under Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
Sahoo was arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna.
The former principal’s properties included three crusher units at Khurda and Pokharibandh and near Biswanathpur, Kalahandi; two JCBs, four trucks and tippers, two SUVs, four two-wheelers and two single-storey houses. He was also found in possession of 26 plots in prime localities of Khurda and Cuttack.
It was also found that he had cheated people by taking money after promising them jobs in the college.
