Odisha Vigilance Arrests Nuapada MVI After Seizure Of Rs 1.32 Lakh ‘Ill-Gotten’ Cash
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Sunday arrested MVI, Nuapada, Bijay Kumar Behuria after seizure of Rs 1.32 lakh suspected ill-gotten cash from him the previous day.
On September 7, a team of Vigilance officials intercepted Behuria near Khurda Hospital Square while he was en route to Bhubaneswar from Nuapada in a vehicle. The search thereafter led to recovery of Rs. 1.32 lakh. Both the cash, the source of which he could not explain satisfactorily, and the vehicle were seized by the agency.
The MVI was suspected to have received the money as PC (abbreviation used for percentage to describe bribe money in common parlance)
Soon after the interception, the Vigilance also raided 5 locations, including his rented residential house at Nupada, parental house in Jajpur, an apartment in Bhubaneswar and his office chamber, to ascertain whether he had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
“A case has been registered against him under Sections 13(1) (b) and r/w 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and he has been forwarded to the court. The investigation is in progress,” a Vigilance release said.
