Bhubaneswar: An accountant in the Block Education Office (BEO) at Kujanga in Jagatsinghpur district was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday for allegedly taking Rs 5000 bribe from a teacher.
According to a Vigilance press release, accountant Suryakanta Swain was caught inside his office room while demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a teacher for billing the house building advance of Rs 1,50,000 in his favour.
The house building advance was earlier sanctioned by the competent authority of the government in favour of the complainant, Swain was delaying for preparing bill without any reason. He was demanding Rs 5,000 for processing and release of the bill amount.
Finding no other means, the teacher complained before Vigilance authorities about the matter. Based on this, Vigilance Officers nabbed the accountant while taking bribe Rs 5,000 from the complainant.
The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized from the exclusive possession of Swain.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Swain from disproportionate assets angle.
A case has been registered by the Vigilance and investigation is in progress.
