Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Monday apprehended a block veterinary officer (BVO) and a programme assistant posted at Rairakhol in Sambalpur district for allegedly taking bribe from the beneficiary of a state government scheme.
The accused have been identified as BVO Subha Prakash Soren and programme assistant (PA) Maheswar Sahu.
Based upon complaint received over toll-free No-1064, a Vigilance team nabbed Soren and Sahu while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 5,000 from a beneficiary for release of 2nd phase subsidy amount of Rs 54,000 towards setting up a broiler farm.
The complainant, a beneficiary under ‘Go- Sugam’ scheme of the state government, had already constructed the broiler farm in April, 2025 and was eligible to get total subsidy amount Rs 90,000.
Since April 2025, the complainant had been requesting Soren to release the 2nd phase of subsidy amount Rs 54,000.
However, Soren was demanding bribe Rs 5000 to release the said amount. Left with no option, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Following this, Vigilance officers nabbed accused duo Soren and Sahu while taking Rs 5,000 from the complainant. The entire bribe amount Rs 5,000 has been recovered from their possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations associated with Soren from disproportionate assets (DA) angle. Investigation is in progress.
