Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Friday uncovered a triple-storey palatial building and eight plots during raids on properties linked to a Junior Engineer (JE) in Malkangiri Block, Nihar Ranjan Sarkar, on allegation of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Assets detected in the name Sarkar and his family members are as follows:
1. A triple-storey palatial building over 7900 sqft area at Jayanagar in Malkangiri Town.
2. Eight valuable plots – six in posh area of Malkangiri town and two in Mathili.
3. Rs.2,11,800 in cash
The measurement and valuation/assessment of the building/plots are being carried out by Vigilance Technical Wing. Bank, postal deposits and other investments are being ascertained, a Vigilance release said.
Simultaneous house searches were conducted by teams led by 4 DSPs, 7 inspectors, and other supporting staff on the strength of search warrants issued by Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore, at four places in Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts.
(1) Residential triple-storey building at Jayanagar, Malkangiri town.
(2) Paternal house at MPV-10, PS- Kalimela, Malkangiri district.
(3) House of a relative at Raighar, Nabarangpur district.
(4) His office chamber in the office of BDO, Malkangiri.
The release further stated that Sarkar entered government service on November 14, 2015, as GPTA in Mathili block on contractual basis. He was regularised on August 1, 2022, while working at Mathili block. In December 2024, he was posted as JE at Malkangiri block. Sarkar has served about a decade in Malkangiri district.
