Odisha Vigilance Takes OPHWC Deputy Manager On Two-Day Remand

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance has taken Deputy manager of Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWC) Pratap Samal on two-day remand for interrogation in the disproportionate assets case.

He was arrested and later suspended for fraud in the Corporation. The disproportionate assets unearthed come to 1021% of the known sources of income, the Vigilance had earlier stated.

The official, who drew a salary of around Rs 80,000 a month, was found in possession of 25 immovable property including five buildings and one flat worth crores.

The Vigilance also unearthed Rs 1.5 crore suspicious bank account deposits during subsequent inquiry. it Samal had made an unregistered partnership deed between his wife Sasmita Samal and his sister Namita Das for production of two Odia movies under the banner of Radha Krishna Productions. More than Rs 50 lakh of ill-gotten money appears to have been invested in production of these two movies, the Vigilance stated in a release.

Finance Wing of Odisha Vigilance is scrutinising the financial documents of Samal for further details, the release stated.
