Odisha Will Get Justice Over Mahanadi issue
Bhubaneswar: Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari on
Thursday assured that Odisha will get justice on Mahanadi issue.
Responding to a query of BJD MP Nagendra Pradhan in Lok Sabha on the
longstanding water sharing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh,
Gadkari said, “Odisha will get its right on the tribunal in three
months.
Meanwhile, the first legal matter pertaining to Mahanadi in the New
year will come up on Friday in Calcutta High Court where the Writ
Petition of Chhatishgarh government challenging the national Green
Tribunal (NGT) order on August 2017 to stay the uncommissioned
projects of Chhattisgarh on Mahanadi on the petition was filed by
Mahanadi Bachao Andolan state convenor Sudarshan Das before the NGT.
According to Das, a special bench in Calcutta High Court is going to
hear the matter tomorrow. In view of the present development
pertaining to Mahanadi Tribunal and Nitin Gadkari’s letter to CM
of Odisha for fresh negotiations on Mahanadi issue, the hearing and
outcome of the case tomorrow in the High court bears a lot of meaning.
