Nayagarh: A young woman consumed poison on Itamati police station premises in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Monday over alleged police inaction.
She was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital and later rushed to a hospital in Bhubaneswar as her condition deteriorated.
According to sources, the woman had filed a counter complaint against a youth with whom she had been in a relationship on Sunday after his family lodged an FIR at the same police station, accusing her brother of trespassing and threatening them.
However, the dispute dates back to February when she had accused the youth of rape, leading to his arrest and subsequent release on bail after 15 days, fuelling tensions between the families.
Following the latest complaints, both the families were called to the police station. During the discussion, she stepped out briefly, returned, and revealed she had taken poison over police inaction.
Her mother alleged that she took the extreme step as police dismissed her daughter’s complaint, citing CCTV evidence supporting the youth’s family’s claims regarding the brother’s intrusion and threats.
