Phulbani: A woman allegedly attempted suicide after killing her two minor children at Raikia in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
According to sources, Bhagyalaxmi Patra of Christian Sahi in Raikia block left her house with her 9-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son on Friday night after a quarrel with her husband M Rajesh Patra.
The following morning, she pushed her two children into a well and later tried to commit suicide.
On being informed, a team of fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the two children and the woman and admitted them to the community health centre (CHC) at Raikia. The two children were, however, declared brought dead.
The condition of the woman is stated to be stable.
D Maheswar Rao, a relative of Bhagyalaxmi, in a complaint in the Raikia police station, alleged that his brother-in-law’s illicit relationship led to frequent quarrels between the couple. She also had to ensure physical torture and this forced her to take the extreme step.
