Jharsuguda: A woman allegedly attempted to end her life after hacking her two minor children to death with a conventional vegetable cutter in Odisha’s Jharsuguda town on Saturday night.
The accused has been identified as Ranjita Oram.
According to sources, Ranjita locked the house when her husband went to the toilet. She then allegedly killed her five-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter at their home in the town and then attempted to slit her throat using the same vegetable cutter. The husband, along with some neighbours, later broke the window to enter the house. Both children were declared dead at the scene. Ranjita was rushed to district headquarters hospital and later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla. Her condition is stated to be stable.
Preliminary investigations point to a domestic dispute as the possible motive behind the killings, though the exact reason is still under scrutiny. A case has been registered at the local police station, and further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events.
