Odisha Woman Officer Caught With Rs 4.92 Lakh ‘Ill-Gotten Cash’ Arrested
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested OAS officer Akhyamita Kartik, who was apprehended with Rs 4.92 lakh in cash near Jaring the previous evening.
Kartik, currently serving as Block Development Officer (BDO) of Golamunda in Kalahandi, was arrested as she could not satisfactorily account for the cash seized from her during interrogation, an official release said.
On Thursday, the anti-corruption team carried out an operation on receipt of credible inputs regarding collection of a huge bribe amount as ‘PC (abbreviation for percentage used as a code word to describe bribe in local parlance)’ by the BDO. Her official vehicle was intercepted while she was traveling from Bhawanipatna to Koraput. The cash was recovered from inside the rear door of the SUV where she had hidden it to evade detection.
A case has been registered against her under sections 13(2)r/w13(1)(b) of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway, it added.
