Odisha Women Commission Chairperson Meets ‘Murdered’ Teacher Mamita’s Family

Bhubaneswar: Chairperson of State Commission for Women (SCW) Namita Behera on Saturday met the family of school teacher Mamita Meher, who was allegedly murdered, at her house.

A four-member team of visited SCW led by Behera arrived at Mamita’s house in Jharni village under Tureikela of Balangir district in the morning.

Following the meeting, the SCW chairperson in a tweet said, “Spoke with Mamita’s family and assured them to take stringent action against the accused. Chargesheet will be filed soon and the case will be fast-tracked.”

After meeting the teacher’s family, Behera is also scheduled to visit the spot where the body of Mamita was buried after the alleged murder at Mahaling in Kalahandi district. She is likely to visit the school where Mamita was a teacher and review the safety and security of the students reading there.

It may be noted that 24-year-old Mamita, who was working as the teacher in the Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling had gone missing on October 8 and her chopped body was found buried in the under-construction stadium of the school on October 19.

The president of the managing committee of the school, Govind Sahu and five others have been arrested in connection with the case.
