Jajpur: An Odia youth arrived in the district headquarters of Odisha’s Jajpur district on his bicycle from Maharashtra. The journey took him eight days.
Mahesh Jena, from Bhanra village under Bari block, was working as a labourer in a private company in Maharashtra.
With the company closing following the announcement of the 21-day nationwide lockdown to contain the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Jena decided to return to his native place. Since there was no other transport and with even train services being cancelled, he set off on the journey from Maharashtra on his bicycle and reached the district headquarters on Tuesday evening.
During his eight-day journey, he had night halts at different places.
After coming to know about Jena, district collector Ranjan Kumar Das asked Jajpur BDO Sourav Chakraborty to make necessary arrangements for the youth.
Acting on the directive, the BDO sent Jena to a government quarantine facility at Abdalpur High School for a period of 14 days after his medical examination.
