Odisha Youth Steals Mobile Phone, Transfers Rs 1.7 Lakh From Owner’s Account To Buy Gift For Girlfriend

Koraput: A youth from Kotapad area of Odisha’s Koraput district allegedly stole a mobile phone and used it to transfer Rs 1.7 lakh from the phone owner’s bank account to his own account to buy gifts for girlfriend.

The accused has been identified as Apendra Pani of Jamunahandi under the jurisdiction of Kotapad police station in the district.

Sources said Apendra, who allegedly transferred the amount to buy gifts for his girlfriend, had stolen the mobile phone from a shop at Janiguda in Koraput.

The shop is located near his girlfriend’s house and he had visited the shop several times. However, the last time Apendra visited the shop, he lifted the phone of the shop owner.

Police said one Naveen Chandra Patnaik had filed a complaint at Koraput Town Police Station on May 3 alleging that a youth had stolen his mobile phone from his shop and used it to transfer Rs 1.7 lakh to his account.”

The accused was using three mobile devices and six different SIM cards to evade the police. However, he was apprehended from Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh. He has confessed to the crime and the police have recovered Rs 70,000 cash and three mobile phones from his possession. Further investigation is underway.
