Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoo Welcomes 4 New Guests From Arunachal Pradesh

Bhubaneswar: Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP), on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, welcomed four new guests – two hoolock gibbons and as many leopard cats – from Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.

The four animals were brought from Itanagar Biological Park under an animal exchange programme in which the NZP handed over two tigers – Rocky and Sohini and three gharials after the approval of the Central Zoo Authority.

The tiger Rocky was born to Bijaya and Saif on March 28, 2021 and tigress Sohini to Megha and Nandan on April 14, 2021. Rocky and Sohini had been at Nandankanan for more than two years since their birth, sources said.

Earlier this month, a team from Itanagar led by veterinary doctor Swarang Tadap visited Nandankanan and transferred the animals by road. A six member team, including a veterinary doctor, also left for Itanagar to collect the gibbons and leopard cats.
