Bhubaneswar: The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) will soon have state-of-the-art Digital Pathology Equipment which will ensure fast and accurate diagnosis.
Dr Achyuta Samanta, the Founder of KIIT, KISS and KIMS, on Thursday commissioned the equipment at KIMS’ Department of Pathology, the first such installation in Odisha. With this scanner, KIMS becomes one of the few institutions in India to integrate fully digitised pathology into routine diagnostic and clinical services.
The new SG60 Digital Pathology Scanner will significantly enhance all types of diagnosis, according to a KIMS release. Through rapid digitisation and automated slide analysis, the equipment will reduce turnaround time for several tests, especially cancer diagnosis, thereby ensuring faster initiation of treatment for patients.
Among other benefits of the SG60 Scanner are – it will improve laboratory workflow and connectivity, increase flexibility and efficiency of the workforce; benefit patients by enabling rapid referral of cases between organisation or across pathology networks; multidisciplinary collaboration among experts and remote consultation.
It will also be helpful to medical students, by employing full spectrum of histopathology learning for undergraduate and postgraduate education and external quality assurance (EQA).
The new scanner machine sets the stage for use of artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnostic services, which can reshape the healthcare industry.
The SG60 scanner supports parallel batch scanning, “load-and-walk-away” operation, and high-resolution whole-slide imaging, which allows pathology laboratories to process large volumes of histology samples swiftly while maintaining exceptional image clarity and diagnostic accuracy.
