Berhampur: Dr Narayan Mishra, a nationally reputed pulmonologist from Odisha, was conferred two coveted national awards for his contributions to advancement of respiratory care, education and research in respiratory medicine.
Dr Mishra was honoured by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) with the prestigious ‘National Veteran Academic Excellence Award’ at Hyderabad in Telangana during the national conference on December 26. Earlier, he was bestowed with the highest national honour of ‘Indian Chest Society-Lifetime Achievement Award 2024’ during the national conference of the pulmonologists at Coimbatore on November 21.
The ‘National Veteran Academic Excellence Award’ was conferred on Dr Mishra for promotion and propagation of cognitive, psychomotor and affective domain components of knowledge, skills and attitude on a pan-India level and leading by example to infuse empathy, compassion and perfect implementation of IMA HQ’s Academic Programme. His remarkable contributions to the advancement of respiratory care, education, and research were praised by the IMA.
The ‘Indian Chest Society-Lifetime Achievement Award 2024’ was given to him for his dedication, innovation and excellence in the field of respiratory medicine. His contributions have left an indelible mark in the field and inspired generations of medical professionals. the award committee stated.
Dr Mishra is recipient of two international awards and more than 100 national awards for his academic activities in the field of respiratory medicine. He is known for his anti-tobacco movement in the country and has conducted more than 670 anti-tobacco awareness workshops.
The anti-tobacco rally organised by him in Berhampur on World Cancer Day on February 4, 2009 was participated by more than 10,000 students. It also found a place in the Limca Book of Records.
