Odisha’s First Corona Positive Patient Stable: Subroto Bagchi

Bhubaneswar: Hours after an Italy-returned Odia student admitted to the Capital Hospital here tested positive for the novel coronavirus, government chief spokesperson on COVID-19 Subroto Bagchi on Monday said that the patient is ‘stable’.

“The 33-year-old student, who is doing his research in Italy, arrived in Delhi on March 6 and was in self-quarantine in Delhi. He then boarded a train and arrived in Bhubaneswar on March 12. Later, he consulted a doctor of a private nursing home on March 13 and was admitted to the isolation ward of the Capital Hospital on March 14. His blood and swab samples were then sent to the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) here for examination. We received the report late on Sunday night which revealed that he was infected with COVID-19,” Bagchi told mediapersons here.

Informing that the infected patient is now stable with no other health complications, he said the state government has begun contact tracing. “Efforts are on to track those who have come in contact with the patient during his travel from Delhi to Bhubaneswar. The state government will take necessary steps for these persons who had come in contact with him,” he added.
