Bhubaneswar: A suspension bridge with a transparent glass floor, a first-of-its-kind in Odisha, will be constructed at Vedvyas in Odisha’s Rourkela.
Announcing this on the occasion of Rourkela Dibasa, Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said that the foundation stone for the project, which is estimated to cost Rs 34-35 crore, will be laid in May. “The floor made of toughened transparent glass will give pedestrians a sense of walking on the surface of the river while crossing through the bridge,” he said, adding that the aim is to come up with a bridge, which would last for the next 100 years.
Harichandan also announced two major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity in and around Rourkela. “A big portion of the Grand Ring Road connects Rourkela with Jaleswar. Survey work for four laning of the road has begun. It will enhance regional access and facilitate smoother travel. A new 100-km-long ring road will also be developed around the city to ease traffic congestion,” he said.
