Odisha’s JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Jindal Steel & AM/NS India Bag Multiple Awards At Mines Safety Fortnight

Bhubaneswar: JSW Steel Odisha, Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division (FAMD), Jindal Steel and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India’s (AM/NS India) Iron Ore mines bagged several awards at the 43rd Annual Metalliferous Mines Safety Fortnight Observance in Bhubaneswar.

JSW Steel’s mining division received 23 awards at the event organised by the Eastern Zone Mining Association under the aegis of Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS).

Prasanna Panda, Business Head of JSW Steel Odisha Mining Division, and Ram Shankar Sharma, Operations and Projects Head, received the awards along with their respective teams.

Ganua Mines was adjudged overall first in Group B4, winning seven awards for excellence in Innovation & Digitalisation, General Working, Mock Drill and Welfare.

Nugaon Mines achieved overall second performance in Group A2, while Narayanposhi Mines earned overall third performance in Group B1 with strong performances in Mock Drill, Electrical, Mechanical and General Working.

JSW Jajang’s Occupational Health Centre (OHC) secured overall first position in the general category and GVTC took second position.

JSW Steel’s stall earned overall third position for showcasing innovations such as the sleipner system and laser facility in HEMM, along with the inclusion of women operators in mining.

22 awards for Tata Steel’s FAMD

Tata Steel’s FAMD won 22 awards, with Saruabil Chromite Mine emerging top performer in Group A5, securing first prizes in Innovation & Digitalisation, and Publicity & Propaganda.

The mine won second prizes in Overall Performance, Lead Indicators, Mock Drill & Emergency Preparedness, and General Working (Opencast Mines), and third prizes in Mechanical Maintenance and Drilling, Blasting and Handling of Explosives.

Kamarda Chromite Mine also made a mark in Group A5, bagging first prizes in Training, Health and Welfare (Opencast Mines) and SMP, Safety and Statutory Compliance (Opencast Mines), along with a second prize in Drilling, Blasting and Handling of Explosives (Opencast Mines).

In Group A2, Joda West Iron and Manganese Mine won first prizes in General Working, Drilling, Blasting and Handling of Explosives, and Innovation and Digitalisation. The mine also secured second prize in SMP, Safety and Statutory Compliances and a third prize in Training, Health and Welfare.

In Group A4, Bamebari Iron and Manganese Mine clinched second prizes in SMP, Safety and Statutory Compliances and Publicity and Propaganda, and third prize in Mechanical Maintenance.

Tiringpahar Iron and Manganese Mine added to the tally with first prize in Overall Performance, second prize in Innovation and Digitalisation, and third prizes in General Working and Training, Health and Welfare.

The awards were received by Chief, Mines (FAMD) Shambhu Nath Jha, Head (Mining), Saruabil and Kamarda Mines Naveen Shrivastava, and Head, Manganese Group of Mines Rajesh Kumar Ranjan, along with other senior officials.

Jindal Steel’s Iron Ore Mines claim 16 awards

Jindal Steel’s Iron Ore mines clinched 16 awards across multiple categories.

The awards were presented during the concluding ceremony of the Mines Safety Fortnight in the presence of Ujjwal Tah, Director General of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS).

Kasia Iron & Dolomite Mines received several top honours including first prize in Overall Performance (Opencast Mines), Mechanical Maintenance, Training Health & Welfare, and Lead Indicators, Emergency Preparedness, Mock Drill & Accident Statistics. The mine also secured second prize in Publicity & Propaganda and Electrical Maintenance, and third Prize in Occupational Health Centre Facilities.

Roida-I Iron Mines got first prize in Training, Health & Welfare.

TRB Iron Mines, Tensa received second prize in Drilling, Blasting and Handling of Explosives and Publicity & Propaganda, and also third Prize in SMP, Safety & Statutory Compliances and Training, Health & Welfare.

Jindal Steel also received several common awards, including first prize in Overall Performance (GVTC) – Soyabali, Best Safety Stall, and Group Vocational Training Centre (Facility), along with 3rd Prize in Group Vocational Training Centre (Training).

7 awards for AM/NS India

AMNS India awards

Ghoraburhani Sagasahi and Thakurani Iron Ore Mines of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) bagged seven awards for safety, sustainability and efficiency.

Thakurani Mine secured four awards — first prize in Safety Management Plan, Safety & Statutory Compliance category, second prize in Lead Indicators, Emergency Preparedness, Mock Drill & Accident Statistics category, second prize in Innovation & Digitisation category and third prize in Mechanical Maintenance category.

Ghoraburhani Sagasahi Mine received three awards — first prizes in Mechanical Maintenance and Electrical Maintenance categories, and second prize in the General Working category.

On the occasion, a stall by AM/NS India showcased the best safety practices in its mines, highlighting a strong commitment to ‘Zero Harm’ through technological advancements and proactive measures.
