Odisha’s Per Capita Loan Burden Doubles In A Decade, Admits Finance Minister

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s per capita loan burden has doubled in the past ten years, admits Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari in the state Assembly on Monday.

Addressing the members during the ongoing monsoon session of the House, Pujari said the per capita loan burden in the state was Rs 9,144 in 2011-12 and it has gone up to Rs 23, 761 (more than double of the figure in 2011-12) in 2021-22 and the state’s overall loan burden by the end of the year would be Rs 122917.25 crore.

The Finance Minister was responding to a question raised by Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik (UDAQ 614) on the quantum of loan burden on the state by the end of the current fiscal and the per capita loan burden in the past 10 years.

According to the figures furnished by the State Accountant General, the state’s loan burden by the end of July was Rs 104312.12 crore which accounts for 17.80 per cent of gross state domestic products (GSDP), stated the Finance Minister.
