Odisha’s Piyush Puty Impresses Durban Film Fest Jury With Camera Work For Manoj Bajpayee Headliner ‘Joram’

Bhubaneswar: Odisha-born cinematographer Piyush Puty had added another feather in his cap with honours at Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) for Manoj Bajpayee headliner ‘Joram’.

The psychological thriller won two awards at the festival with Manoj creating history again by becoming the first Indian actor to win the ‘Best Actor’ trophy at Durban and Piyush bagging the award for ‘Best Cinematography’.

Son of noted filmmaker Gadadhar Puty, Piyush impressed the jury of the film festival, which noted: “There was no separation between the camera and the protagonists’ movements. A delicate dance of skill in pursuit of form was evident in each frame.”

The 35-year-old, who began his journey in cinema in 2008 with ‘Wake Up Sid’ visibly inspired by his father’s film-making career, said: “The experience of ‘Joram’ can be termed as my unlearning project that pushed me beyond my comfort space, and demanded exploration beyond books and conservative approaches. ‘Joram’ was undoubtedly the most challenging as well as the most satisfying film of my career.”

Helmed by Devashish Makhija, ‘Joram’ is survival-thriller about a displaced indigenous man.

Piyush has also worked on ‘Don-2’, ‘Agneepath’, and ‘Lootera’. He won national awards for his documentary ‘Amdavad Ma Famous’ in 2015 and tasted new heights with his first film ‘Har Kisse Ke Hisse Kaamyaab’ in 2020.
