Odisha’s Shiv Sundar Das In Contention For BCCI’s Interim Chief Selector

Mumbai/Bhubaneswar: Former India batsman from Odisha Shiv Sundar Das is likely to be appointed as interim chairman of the BCCI selection committee, sources said on Friday.

The post is lying vacant following the resignation of chief selector Chetan Sharma, who landed in a controversy after allegedly being caught revealing confidential information during a sting operation by a news channel.

The BCCI, however, has not officially announced anything related either to Chetan’s resignation or his successor.

Das, who is from Central Zone, could now be appointed as the interim chairman of the committee as he has played 23 Tests, the most number among the current lot in the selection panel. The other members are Subroto Banerjee (East Zone), Salil Ankola (West Zone) and Sridharan Sharath (South Zone), sources added.

Chetan resigned after he was caught gossiping about players and claiming the widespread use of unsanctioned injections to pass fitness tests. “Chetan has tendered his resignation to BCCI secretary Jay Shah and his resignation has been accepted. His position had become untenable after the sting operation. He resigned voluntarily and wasn’t asked to resign,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity on Friday.

The former bowler was re-appointed as BCCI’s chief selector after he along with the entire selection committee was sacked following India’s semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia.
