Odisha’s Similipal National Park Closed From Today
Baripada: Similipal National Park, Asia’s second-largest biosphere reserve, in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj will remain closed for visitors for four months from June 16 in view of the monsoon season.
The two entry points located at Kaliani and Pithabata will remain closed for the visitors. All ecotourism complexes inside the Simlipal Tiger Reserve will remain shut and jungle safari vehicles will be out of service during the period.
“Similipal Tiger Reserve including all ecotourism complex inside will be closed from 16.06.22 for all tourists/visitors. The exact date of reopening will be notified later,” tweeted North Similipal Forest Division.
The park, spread over an area of 2,750 sq km and comprising the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR), remains closed as the roads get washed away due to rain during the monsoon, which is also the mating season for the animals. It reopens in October or November depending on the withdrawal of the monsoon.
