Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed the Commissioner of Police of Bhubaneswar and Engineer-in-Chief-cum-Secretary, Works, to take appropriate fire-fighting measures in all police establishments.
The directive of the Commission has come in response to a petition filed by Human Right activists Akhand.
Citing instance of a major fire that broke out at the barrack inside Capital Police Station premises in the capital city on May 6 this year in which one police personnel sustained serious burn injuries, the petitioner alleged that the mishap took place due to the utter callousness of the authorities concerned for not making periodical inspection of the wiring and other electrical fittings of the police station.
Besides, the petitioner also sought the intervention of the Commission in the matter by directing the police to clarify whether the police station had adequate fire safety measures.
