Bhubaneswar: The Ollywood fraternity has taken a strong exception to the proposal of the Sports and Youth Services department for construction of a sports complex inside Kalinga Studio premises, on the outskirts of the Odisha capital.
Sources said secretary, Sports and Youth Services, Vishal Dev, in a letter to the General Administration department, has proposed construction of a sports complex inside Kalinga Studio.
“There is no question of allowing a sports complex inside the Kalinga Studio premises. There is a already shortage of space for the studio, we are not going to hand over the land under any circumstances,” chairman of Odisha Film Development Corporation, Munna Khan, told mediapersons here.
In his reaction, veteran Ollywood actor Mihir Das said, it is a matter of utter regret that the state government has shown step-motherly attitude towards the Odia cine industry. “As far as I know, the expansion of the studio as planned by the Odisha Film Development Corporation would require more land,” he added.
Expressing displeasure over the decision , Ollywood actress Anu Choudhury wondered as to why the state government is planning a sports complex inside the Kalinga Studio while there are other places in the city where it could be set up.
“I was terribly upset after going through the letter of the Sports and Youth Affairs department. The Kalinga Studio has to survive. If it survives, the Odia cine industry will survive. I would request the government to take necessary steps for the development of Kalinga Studio,” said well-known producer and director Sanjay Nayak.
