Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has set an ambitious target of producing 50 million tonnes of minerals and achieving Rs 30,000 crore in sales revenue in fiscal 2025-26.
This was revealed during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan here on Wednesday. A plan to ramp up bauxite production from 3.6 to 6 million tonnes next year was also discussed, along with measures like lease extensions, fast-tracking environmental clearances and operationalization of new mines.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the need for OMC to focus on improving livelihoods in mining areas through employment and convergence of development schemes. He stressed the importance of promoting forest resources and implementing various developmental activities to generate employment opportunities for local communities. The OMC would prepare a special plan for this purpose.
Majhi also reviewed progress of OMC’s proposed pellet plant, slated to begin operations by May 2026. The Centre’s MECON has been tasked with preparing a Techno-Economic Feasibility Report for this project. A dedicated project committee has also been formed to implement it.
He also urged OMC to enhance its operational efficiency by recruiting skilled professionals.
The meeting was attended by Steel & Mines Additional Chief Secretary Surendra Kumar and CM’s Principal Secretary Saswata Mishra.
