Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided that only Omfed ghee will be used in important temples in the state in order to maintain the sanctity of the religious institutions.
This was stated by Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik on Saturday.
The move comes in the wake of allegations that adulterated ghee is being used in several temples in the state.
“Omfed ghee is being used in Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. The product will be used in other major temples also,” he told reporters, adding that the district collectors have been asked to ensure use of Omfed ghee in all major temples.
Stating that there has been a growing demand for Omfed products in rural areas, the Miniter said the state government has decided to open Omfed stalls in villages.
“Steps are being taken to set up Omfed stalls in every village to meet customers’ demand. We are giving priority on milk production in Odisha,” he further said.
The Minister said that emphasis will be given on substantially increasing milk production in the state by providing adequate facilities and incentives to milk farmers.
He said Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana will be implemented at eight points in every block as per the plan. This will focus on increasing milk production and improving small cattle farming. The government will provide subsidies and restructure Omfed.
